Initiative EV20

2010- 2012

In the most developed countries, road transport is responsible for one quarter of CO2 emissions. The use of alternative energies, such as electricity, can help reduce these emissions. For example, an electric car pollutes between 15% and 40% less than a petrol-powered car.

The EV 20 initiative is designed to speed up and develop the use of electric vehicles. Organised by the Climate Group and presided over by H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco, the scheme groups together twenty or so countries, states, automotive industries, owners of car fleets, financiers, and players working to promote the use of electric vehicles. The purpose of this task force is to focus on efforts over the next three years which are designed to accelerate the automotive market transformation by 2020.

The countries involved include: Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Principality of Monaco, Israel, Scandinavia and Holland.
