2007 – 2009
The project focused on the cultivation and processing of Jatropha curcas, an unconventional source of renewable energy that is economical and ecological, and a promising substitute for diesel, kerosene, firewood, solar energy, wind energy, charcoal, electricity, LPG and other fuels.
Green Africa will be introducing a pilot system for the production of Jatropha as part of its rural development activities in the province of Kitui. The first refinery will be installed with a production capacity of 22 000 litres of biodiesel a day. The project will extend over an area of 300 hectares and at least 5 thousand hectares of Jatropha trees will be grown in 2009.
