H.E. Bernard Fautrier attends a conference in Moscow organised by the Russian Geographical Society

H.E. Bernard Fautrier, Vice-President of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, travelled to Moscow on 9th November 2017 to take part in a conference organised by the Russian Geographical Society with which the Foundation signed a partnership agreement in October 2016.

Mr Bernard Fautrier spoke about the protection of marine species in the Mediterranean, focusing his presentation on the development of Marine Protected Areas and the conservation of endangered species.

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco in Geneva for a conference on climate change

On 7th November 2017, the Diplomatic Club of Geneva welcomed HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco to a conference entitled “Fighting climate change:  everyone’s concern”, at the Maison de la Paix.

The event was organised in conjunction with the Institut de Hautes Etudes Internationales et du Développement (IHEID), with the support of the members of the Society of the Legion of Honour (Swiss section).

Artificial reefs, created using a 3D printer, submerged in the Larvotto marine protected area

Six 3D-printed reefs, made from natural products (Dolomite sand and volcanic ash) and weighing 2,500 kg each, will be submerged in the Larvotto marine protected area in Monaco on 31 October. This is a "first" in the Mediterranean and in the world in terms of the size of the printed reefs.

This innovative project is led by the Boskalis Company and the ECOMERS laboratory (Nice University, CNRS - France's National Centre for Scientific Research) with support from the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and in partnership with the Monegasque Association for Nature Protection (AMPN), which manages Monaco's marine protected areas.

Meeting between the AGOA and Pelagos Sanctuaries in Martinique

As part of the Monaco Explorations, the vessel Yersin, involved in undertaking missions for scientific and mediation purposes, made a port of call in the French West Indies on 26th and 27th October 2017.

On this occasion, the Monegasque section of the Pelagos Agreement, through the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, launched a joint venture between the Pelagos Sanctuary and the AGOA Sanctuary in the French West Indies, both of which are dedicated to the protection of marine mammals.

UPAW hands over a cheque to the Foundation

On 19th October 2017, UPAW presented a cheque amounting to 20,080 Euros to H.E. Bernard Fautrier, Vice President of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

On 15th and 16th July 2017, Monaco played host for the first time ever to some of the world’s most prestigious artists in urban art on the Quai Albert I esplanade. The theme chosen was ocean protection.

Le Yacht Club de Monaco s’engage aux côtés de la Fondation avec Mr Goodfish

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has been committed to protecting endangered marine species (including the Mediterranean blue fin tuna) since it was first established.  Since 2013 it has been the regional coordinator for the South East region of France for the “Mr Goodfish” campaign to promote the responsible consumption of seafood products. [...] The Monaco Yacht Club and its chef Christian Plumail have decided to become involved alongside the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in order to promote the responsible consumption of seafood products, by becoming a partner of the Mr Goodfish programme.

Climate Change

HRH The Prince of Wales is one of the key players in the fight against global warming. In 2007, he set up the Prince’s Rainforests Project, which aims to find solutions to slow down deforestation and, since 2010 he has headed a think tank on sustainable development.
This short introduction to climate change explains in simple terms the mechanisms involved and their consequences for the planet.
HSH Prince Albert of Monaco wished to support this book and wrote the foreword.

« What place does wildlife have in today’s society? » was the title of the Forum organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, on 12 and 13 October 2017

The Foundation promotes responsible practices and concrete solutions for the sustainable development of our society. Through engaging primarily with populations and government authorities, it supports innovative initiatives in favour of the preservation of biodiversity and the recognition of the impact of human activities on the natural environment.

As part of this process of promotion and support of outstanding initiatives, the Foundation organised a conference, on 12 and 13 October, devoted to the study of the "great world of wildlife" in territorial management.
